Football competition raises £5,000 for Spread a Smile
The Circle of Eight, an amazing committee of ladies, founded in 2004 to raise money for charities, raised £5,000 for Spread a Smile at a charity five-a-side football tournament at Cotlandswick Leisure Centre at London Colney, St Albans on 10th of July 2016.
Five different age-groups plus adults entered the tournament. In total an impressive 39 teams aged between 5 and 50 years old played on the day.
Debra Davidson, one of the Circle of Eight commented, ‘I heard about the amazing work Spread a Smile do from a volunteer, Lucy Furman, whose nephew was entertained by Spread a Smile when he was unwell. So I put it to the rest of the committee and they said let’s support the charity. We don’t usually hold children’s events, but we thought we would give it a go with the help of Scott Shulton, from SFC Academy. Circle of Eight like supporting smaller charities that mean something to a member of the committee.’
Thank you to the Circle of Eight, the footballers and particularly Debra Davison for all of their support and for the amazing amount raised which will go a long way towards entertaining children and teenagers in hospital.
