Spread a Smile appear on BBC Children in Need Appeal Show
On 18th November, Spread a Smile was featured as part of the illustrious BBC Children in Need appeal show. Children in Need interviewed five-year-old Chloe Balloqui, who we’ve visited at GOSH for the last three years. Brave Chloe and her mother Karen and brother James, told their story to Riz Lateef, BBC London News presenter, talking about her stays at Great Ormond Street and the visits from our entertainers that transformed her time there.
Karen Balloqui told Riz that Spread a Smile was 1the ‘best therapy’ and that when Chloe was in Great Ormond Street Hospital for a sustained period of time ‘she would ask daily if Spread a Smile were coming to visit’. Chloe’s 11-year-old brother James also spoke movingly about his experience of supporting his sister during her treatment: ‘It was tough seeing Chloe going through so much pain, and sometimes I wasn’t able to be next to her, encouraging her to be strong, which she always has been. I am very proud of her.’ Our co-founder Vanessa Crocker also appeared on the show.
Children in Need are providing funding to Spread a Smile for three years, and we are very proud to be associated with them and grateful for their ongoing support.
