Spread a Smile receives Lloyd’s Market Charity Award
Spread a Smile received a Lloyd’s Market Charity Award at a lunchtime reception in the City of London on 10th December 2014.
The £2,000 awards were made to 30 charities in recognition of the fundraising and voluntary work undertaken by their supporters in the Lloyd’s market, and to those charities which have provided individuals and their families with invaluable assistance when facing difficult circumstances.
Spread a Smile were nominated for an award by Lloyd’s Market employee Gavin Watson, father of X-year-old Eleanor, who receives treatment in UCH for numerous complex conditions.
Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards were launched in 2007, and each year the trustees of Lloyd’s Charities Trust continue to be moved by individuals’ stories and amazed at the enormous efforts made by those around the market on behalf of so many charities.
Spread a Smile provides entertainment to seriously ill children who are in hospital for prolonged periods of time suffering from conditions such as cancer, heart and kidney-related illnesses. It takes fairies, pirates, magicians, singers, a poet, face painters, children’s characters and others into children’s wards in Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College Hospital.
Gavin Watson commented, “Spread a Smile gave us something to look forward to. A trip to Disney’s The Lion King musical where she and other children got to meet the cast afterwards which was an absolute tonic for her at that stage in the recovery process. They also are regular visitors to the ward where they lift the spirits of children undergoing dialysis and other renal treatment.”
Josephine Segal, Director of Spread a Smile, said: “We were delighted to receive this award in recognition of our work. We have entertained Eleanor on many occasions and are so happy to be able to help improve her time in hospital.”
I can't really explain just what a great charity it is and we as a family are grateful that you Let us make special memories. I wish we had known about you when my brother was alive. Please tell everyone.xxx
